Would you like to spend a Romantic day but it’s raining?
Nothing better than a rainy day in Amsterdam! The best day to catch a movie at any of the many romantic theatres!
There are plenty charming movie theatres in Amsterdam. If you love the idea of escaping into the world of film, why not get cozy in one of them?
All films are presented in their original language with Dutch subtitles, and programs include both the latest English language blockbusters and independent films. Two of my all-time favourite cinemas are ‘The Movies’ and ‘Tuschinski’.
Tim and I chose to have dinner first, that’s why we went to The Movies Art House Cinema, (Haarlemmerdijk 151), once famous not only for its films but a restaurant that served crocodile and zebra steaks! Today the restaurant is much tamer serving classics such as Salad Niçoise and Hamburger with fries. The 1920s interior is ambient of the Hollywood golden era; it feels like going back in time as you enjoy your meal or just a pre-movie drink in the bar, old film soundtracks playing in the background and the start of your is movie heralded by megaphone. But no need to down your wine, this venue permits you to take your drink with you into the movie! – A truly old-fashioned, romantic experience. We went to see Samba and really enjoyed this kind of a social dramedy-romantic comedy. The scene I liked the most? It’s the one where Samba, (Omar Sy) for the first time tries seducing Alice (Charlotte Gainsburg)… Goose bumps!!!
Tomorrow we’ll go to Pathé Tuschinski, (Reguliersbreestraat 26-34) to watch another movie. Built in 1921 this theatre is a spectacular mix of styles from art- deco to nouveau. It’s one of the most beautiful cinemas in the world. We are planning to treat ourself to a two-person Love Seat in the Balcony or a Private Box, and order champagne!
A movie theatre on our wishlist is the new FilmHallen, located in De Hallen. It’s the newest movie theatre in town. They opened last Sepember. As soon as I’ll go there I’ll let you know if it’s worth a visit, promise.
I would like to know if you have other suggestions for romantic activities to do on a rainy day.
